Snapchat is launching an artificial intelligence tool called My AI, which presents you with a fully customizable little avatar that can pose and answer questions from your loyal audience. Much like a chatbot, it uses artificial intelligence to generate responses to queries. It is likely to come in handy for brands who are perhaps seeing a lot of the same frequently asked questions coming into its brand direct messages. It’s the first instance of a social media platform directly using artificial intelligence.

As per Snapchat: “My AI can recommend birthday gift ideas for your BFF, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a recipe for dinner, or even write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed pal. Make My AI your own by giving it a name and customizing the wallpaper for your Chat.”

But the feature does come with a warning:

“As with all artificial intelligence-powered chatbots, this feature is prone to hallucination and can be tricked into saying just about anything. Please be aware of its many deficiencies and sorry in advance! While My AI is designed to avoid biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading information, mistakes may occur. Please press and hold on any message from My AI to submit feedback. We look forward to hearing about your experience with My AI.”

Gotta love a social media feature that comes with a warning.
