Despite the often challenging budget constraints, your startup or small business strives for effective marketing. This resilience drives the implementation of low-cost marketing strategies, a testament to your determination for growth.

Conventional marketing channels often require substantial financial investments, making it difficult for smaller enterprises to compete effectively.

Rest assured, limited funds are no barrier to your growth or outreach potential. The key is to discover and implement the best frugal marketing techniques or cost-effective marketing strategies for small businesses.

Proven low-budget marketing ideas for startups are available and crucial for brand sustainability and expansion.

This article highlights the most cost-effective marketing strategies for startups and small businesses. These methods will empower you to maximize impact without breaking the bank.

What Is Cost-Effective Marketing?

You have read about “Cost-effective or Low-cost marketing strategies” and “Frugal marketing techniques” in the introduction above and wondered: “Do these terms refer to the same concept?”

Both terms refer to employing cost-effective methods or low-budget marketing ideas to promote your business and products or services. They emphasize the idea of achieving marketing goals without requiring substantial financial investment.

Here is a breakdown of each term:

• Frugal Marketing Techniques: This phrase emphasizes the mindset of being economical and resourceful in your marketing endeavors. It suggests finding ways to achieve marketing objectives efficiently and creatively while minimizing costs and maximizing returns.

• Cost-Effective Or Low-Cost Marketing Strategies: This term focuses directly on the financial aspect, highlighting strategies that do not require a significant budget. It encompasses approaches such as leveraging digital marketing channels, using free or low-cost promotional tools or employing grassroots marketing tactics.

So, whether you use “frugal marketing techniques” or “low-cost marketing strategies,” the goal is to effectively promote a business without overspending on traditional advertising or marketing methods.

Both terms underscore the importance of efficiency, creativity, and resourcefulness in achieving marketing success. This method offers notable advantages to startups and small businesses that face financial limitations.

7 Low-Cost Marketing Strategies For Startups

Low-budget marketing ideas are essential for sustainable growth. They help your business maximize resources efficiently, enabling scalable outreach and impactful brand building without draining financial reserves.

Here are my top seven techniques for building a sustainable brand on a tight budget:

1. Leverage content marketing

2. Implement SEO marketing

3. Set up SMS marketing

4. Use word-of-mouth marketing

5. Create a free Google Business Profile (GBP)

6. Mention or tag individuals and companies on social media

7. Recycle existing content that performs well

1. Take Advantage Of Content Marketing

Content marketing is an excellent, cost-effective tactic that enhances brand visibility. It positions your company as a leading authority within your industry and effectively enchants and interacts with prospective clients.

Here are multiple other reasons to start with content marketing:

• Cost-effective: Content marketing requires minimal financial investment compared to traditional advertising methods.

• Long-term benefits: Quality content can continue to attract and engage your audience and potential clients over time, providing ongoing value without additional costs.

• Builds trust and authority: Consistently delivering valuable and relevant content will establish your expertise as a thought leader in your industry and build trust with readers

• Boosts SEO: Well-optimized content can improve search engine rankings and drive targeted organic traffic to the website or landing page without paid advertising.

• Versatile and shareable: You can repurpose your content across platforms to maximize its reach and impact.

• Measurable results: Analytics tools help track the performance of your content marketing efforts. It helps optimize your strategies based on data insights for better performance.

– Approximately 70% of US companies allocate resources to content marketing efforts.

– 72% of marketers report substantial benefits from content marketing, noting increased engagement among prospects

– Notably, small businesses with active blogs experience a remarkable 126% increase in lead generation compared to those without

– Over three years, content marketing strategies have demonstrated an impressive return on investment (ROI). Compared to paid search campaigns, the applied strategy generated more than 400% additional leads per $1,000 invested.

Content marketing offers a cost-effective way to attract, engage, and convert potential customers into loyal clients. This outcome makes marketing content an invaluable strategy for startups and small businesses to maximize ROI.

How To Do Content Marketing

While there are several ways to implement this marketing strategy, the following tips are practical and essential:

• Define your audience: Understand your target audience’s demographics, interests, and pain points. This insight helps tailor content that resonates and provides value.

• Set explicit goals: Define specific, measurable goals for your content marketing strategy, such as increasing website traffic, generating leads, or building brand awareness.

• Produce authority content: Develop informative, engaging, and relevant content for your audience. This content strategy can include blog posts, behind-the-scenes materials, and exclusive insights from firsthand experience launching your startup.

• Maintain consistency: Establish a consistent publishing schedule to maintain audience engagement and build credibility. Regularly share valuable content across your chosen platforms to stay top-of-mind with your audience.

• Understand basic SEO: Write helpful, relevant content optimized for SEO to ensure your content appears in search engine results pages (SERPs). SEO writing is a cost-effective marketing strategy that increases brand visibility.

2. Apply SEO Marketing

Content and SEO go hand-in-hand. They are like bread and peanut butter. They complement each other perfectly.

Why is that so?

Just as bread forms the base of a sandwich and peanut butter adds flavor and richness, content provides the substance and relevance that SEO needs to attract and engage users.

Without content, SEO lacks meaning and context, much like peanut butter without bread. SEO and content marketing create a cohesive and effective strategy that satisfies search engines and human users.

So, use SEO to optimize your content to improve search engine rankings and brand visibility. Nevertheless, this method involves understanding basic SEO best practices.

Some essential SEO hacks include:

• Keyword research

• Optimized meta tags and meta descriptions

• Image optimization

• URL structure

• Internal linking and more.

For instance, keyword research helps you find what search terms and phrases your target audience is typing on a search engine to find relevant content.

You can list targeted keywords of what your readers are searching for online and develop high-quality articles that show up in SERPs.

How To Do SEO Marketing

Applying SEO is your ticket to appear on search results and generate clicks to your site or landing page.

Implement the following tips:

• Conduct keyword research

• Apply on-page SEO best practices

• Enhance technical SEO

• Build quality backlinks

• Create quality content

• Optimize for mobile

• Apply local SEO

• Use social media

• Monitor performance

3. Establish SMS Marketing

While social media marketing is an obvious way to drive business results, many undermine the power of SMS marketing. SMS marketing allows you to send promotional text messages to potential or existing customers at minimal cost.

It is a direct and effective way to communicate your offers, updates, and alerts to your target audience via SMS (Short Message Service), commonly known as text messages.

However, this marketing method often involves obtaining consent from recipients before sending messages and can be used for various purposes. Marketers value text message marketing for its immediacy, high open rates, and ability to reach customers directly on their mobile devices.

Tips For Effective SMS Marketing

Here are eight valuable tips for a startup business setting up SMS marketing:

1. Obtain recipients’ consent

2. Send only important updates

3. Personalize messages

4. Consider timing and frequency

5. Track and analyze results

6. Offer a registration incentive

7. Provide unsubscribe option

8. Include compelling call-to-action (CTA)

Implementing these tips can help your startup effectively leverage SMS marketing to engage customers, drive sales, and build brand loyalty from the outset.

4. Promote Brand Recognition Through Word-Of-Mouth Marketing

Word-of-mouth (WoM) marketing holds immense value due to its authenticity and trustworthiness. It takes advantage of personal recommendations, influencing potential customers more effectively than traditional advertising.

This marketing strategy harnesses satisfied users and customers as brand advocates to build credibility, increase awareness, and drive sales through genuine endorsements. Moreover, it nurtures a loyal customer base and drives sustainable growth.

For example, data compiled by ReferralCandy shows that word-of-mouth clients are the most loyal; they stay for the longest.

The study reveals that:

• People pay 200% more attention to friends’ recommendations.

• Over 90%, rely on recommendations from their peers when making purchasing decisions.

• 90% of ETSY’s growth is from peer or personal recommendation (word-of-mouth) marketing

• WoM generates a 25% higher ROI.

Word-Of-Mouth Marketing Tips

Here are 6 practical tips to grow your startup with word-of-mouth marketing:

– Use a referral app: Referral apps streamline the process, incentivize sharing, and track referrals, maximizing word-of-mouth effectiveness effortlessly.

– Engage on social media: Actively participate in social media conversations, respond to customer feedback, and share user-generated content (UGC)

– Partner with influencers: Collaborate with influencers who align with your brand to reach their followers and leverage their credibility

– Deliver exceptional customer service: Providing outstanding services encourages customers to share positive experiences with others.

– Encourage reviews and testimonials: Prompt satisfied customers to leave positive reviews or testimonials on platforms like Google Reviews or Yelp.

– Take advantage of your network: Contact your network to spread the word.

5. Set Up A Google Business Profile (GBP) At No Cost

Posting on social media is an acceptable way to create awareness, drive engagement, and build a community around your startup or small business.

google my business listing

This business directory listing lets you appear on multiple Google search properties, such as Google Maps, Local Packs or Google 3 Packs, and Google Knowledge Panel.

However, optimizing your business profile is essential to improving visibility on local search results. This practice involves verifying your startup through your Google Business Profile account and regularly posting updates on your profile.

Posting updates on Google Business Profile (GBP)

Creating a Business profile on Google and other listings and directory platforms is only part of the process. The platform allows you to post regular updates and be active.
GBP posts enhance your local search visibility, enabling you to share crucial updates directly with potential clients. The posts also help you grow your local marketing effort

The posts could be:

• Special offers

• Voucher codes

• Special events

• Name change

• A new product or service

• Updated opening and closing hours.

Your posts will appear prominently on the profile, allowing you to communicate effectively with your audience via GBP.

Examples Of Posts And Updates On GBP

There are two types of GBP posts in the examples below:

The first post thanks the Weighbridge operator for his excellent customer service, and the second update is about the company’s first tournament win.

Nevertheless, respond to your audience’s comments, questions, and suggestions or concerns. You can post text, videos, images, and links to various call-to-action buttons.

Maintaining a regular schedule of Google Business Profile posts will display your business as active and highlight your offerings more effectively.

How To Create Your Free GBP

how to create free google business profile

To create a free Google Business Profile:

– Go to the Google Business Profile website

– Sign in with your Google account

– Fill in your business name, address, and phone number (NAP) as required.

– Verify your business location

– Complete your profile with accurate information

– Confirm your business details and publish your profile

This process allows your business to appear in Google Maps and local search results. Please read this comprehensive guide to learn how to create and optimize your Google Business Profile to rank on searches for free.

6. Mention Individuals (And Companies) On Social Media

Mentioning or tagging people and companies on social media means including their usernames or handles, preceded by an @ symbol in your post or comment. The tag alerts the person you tagged or mentioned and creates a link to their profile.

As a startup or small business owner, tagging people on social media can be a game-changer for your business. It is a powerful way to increase your visibility and reach by leveraging the networks and audiences of those you tag.

This strategy can lead to connections with influencers, collaborators, and potential customers, driving engagement and building relationships. These are crucial for growing your brand presence, attracting attention, and contributing to business growth.

Examples Of Tags Or Mentions On Social Media

Former Semrush editor Melissa Fach tagged me (@MosClement) in her tweet about my guest article for Semrush, which increased my exposure and grew my followers.

twitter x social media mention mos clement

In this example, The Write Practice tagged Sue L. Weems (@Weemswriter) in his “Hero story ideas” post on IG, creating a link to her profile. In both cases, the tagged individuals received alerts when the posts went live.

How To Tag Or Mention People On Social Media

Tagging people on social media involves several vital practices:

Relevance: Ensure that the individuals or companies you tag are relevant to the content or post contextually

Accuracy: Use the correct usernames or handles to ensure tags link to the suitable profiles

Engagement: Tag individuals or brands that are likely to engage with or share your content to increase visibility

Etiquette: Respect others’ preferences for being tagged and avoid over-tagging in a single post

Value: Tagging can be reciprocal; engage with others’ content, and they may reciprocate, broadening your reach.

7. Recycle Existing Content

Repurposing old content as a small business owner helps maximize resources, maintain relevance, and extend the lifespan of content at no extra cost. It enables you to reach new audiences and drive sustained engagement.

This cost-effective marketing strategy lets you optimize your efforts by recycling successful content across different platforms.

For instance, you can convert a popular webinar into a video tutorial or compile related blog posts into an e-book.

You can effectively use recycled content for email marketing or website promotions. So, blend and reintroduce your existing content because many of your audience may not have seen it before. Republishing the material makes it fresh and entirely new to them.

How To Recycle Your Best Content

To recycle your best content for more exposure, consider these strategies:

Repurpose Across Formats: Convert popular blog posts into e-books, videos, infographics, newsletters, or podcasts to appeal to different audience preferences

Update And Refresh: Update statistics, add new insights, or expand on topics to keep content relevant and valuable

Create Series Or Guides: Combine related posts into comprehensive guides or series to increase engagement and SEO visibility

Promote Evergreen Content: To extend the lifespan of timeless content, continuously promote it through email campaigns, site banners, and social media updates.

From day one, easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou said his dream was to make the brand a household name in as many sectors and in as many countries as possible.

He certainly succeeded, and has become a household name himself in the process.

In its 30th anniversary year, the easy family of brands now includes not only airlines, car rental and hotels but has expanded into many more sectors with businesses such as easyStorage.com, easyCleaning.biz and easySim.global.

A huge part of the success of these enterprises is the instantly recognisable ‘easy’ name and signature orange and white branding. A stroke of marketing genius, it has become a global symbol of great value for money.

Sir Stelios Haji-Ionnou is offering his mentorship and a cash prize as part of his Young Entrepreneur Awards

Sir Stelios now spends a significant proportion of his time on his charitable foundation.

This includes helping young entrepreneurs to follow in his footsteps through the foundation’s annual awards program, which offers cash prizes of £300,000 to entrepreneurs younger than 35 who started their own company in the last five years and have a turnover of more than £1million per year.

So how did he do it, and what can those starting their own businesses learn?

Here, Sir Stelios offers five nuggets of marketing wisdom.

Pick a great name

At its inception in 1994, the original working name of easyJet was Stelair, a brand extension from Sir Stelios’ existing shipping company, Stelmar.

But Stelios decided he could do better, and started brainstorming words that customers would instantly associate with value for money.

What's in a name? The 'easy' brand is now known by customers all over the world

What’s in a name? The ‘easy’ brand is now known by customers all over the world

The easy name was born on the back of a napkin in a bar in 1994.

Sir Stelios first applied it to his airline, and from 1995 onwards to many other easy brands, both through the company’s own start-ups and through licensing deals with carefully selected business partners.

While customers in 1995 may not have heard of Sir Stelios, they certainly welcomed easyJet’s proposition that flying should be affordable – and putting aside his own name, Stelair, in favour of easyJet has worked well ever since.

Thank heavens for a moment of sanity in not allowing myself to be completely self-centred by going down the ‘Stel’ road

‘Thank heavens for a moment of sanity in not allowing myself to be completely self-centred by going down the “Stel” road,’ he says.

Instead the name Stelios is now reserved for his charitable foundation, and will be part of his legacy as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

He advises entrepreneurs to think hard about what their business offers customers, and how they can reflect that in the brand name.

If the original idea isn’t quite working, then don’t be afraid to switch to a better brand name that makes it clearer what is it that you are selling.

Tongue-in-cheek marketing stunts

Sir Stelios is no stranger to the publicity stunt. In 1998, when British Airways launched a rival budget airline, 10 easyJet staff turned up in their distinctive orange uniforms and boarded the first flight as customers – stealing the limelight from their much bigger competitor in what Sir Stelios describes as ‘A true David versus Goliath story.’

Sir Stelios says PR stunts are a great way for small businesses to gain huge exposure at a relatively small cost.

It is certainly cheaper than paying an advertising agency to mastermind a major campaign. If the PR stunt goes well it will gain much more media coverage – especially today in the era of social media.

Boost your profile by entering awards

The majority of profits from Sir Stelios’ company easyGroup are donated to the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation.

It runs charity initiatives for community and environmental causes, as well as providing scholarships to business schools and grants to entrepreneurs.

The Foundation also runs an annual awards programme. This offers a prize fund of £300,000, including a top prize of £150,000, to an entrepreneur under the age of 35 who impresses Sir Stelios with their business idea.

In recent years winners have included entrepreneurs running diverse businesses from Christmas tree farming to conservatory design, to the development of a mental health app.

With these awards we are hoping to the find and support the next big UK business success story

The easy family of brands has won awards over the years, and Sir Stelios recognises the impact these can have on a company’s profile.

Entering the awards will not only give the winner cash to invest in their business, but also the chance to boost their company’s profile and get recognition from industry peers.

The deadline for entries is 29 February 2024, and you can find the full criteria on the foundation’s website: www.stelios.foundation.

‘With these awards we are hoping to the find and support the next big UK business success story and help create new jobs in the UK economy,’ Sir Stelios says.

Be different from your competitors

Part of the reason that the easyJet’s branding is so iconic is that it instantly stands out among other airlines – and this was no accident.

When working with agencies to come up with the design, Sir Stelios noticed that almost all other airlines used some combination of the colours red, white and blue. This is why they were called flag carriers.

EasyJet’s trademark orange colour was born out of a desire not to fit the existing mould.

Sir Stelios also decided that the lettering on the logo would be lower-case, standing out from other carriers’ more formal upper-case designs.

Sir Stelios suggests that entrepreneurs are not afraid to go against the grain. He says they should think about the situations where customers might see their branding – in his case on the side of a plane or on a departures board at an airport – and think about how to make it noticeable.

Don’t take yourself too seriously

Easyjet’s brand has a strong sense of humour, which has helped it gain favour with customers.

Sir Stelios says this is important, as presenting an image that is too polished and manufactured can make a business seem less relatable to customers.

In 1998, against the advice of his lawyers and executives, Stelios allowed ITV cameras behind the scenes of the easyJet business for the series Airline.

He did so knowing that the show would include some footage where things didn’t go as planned and customers got angry.

Sir Stelios himself was even filmed trying to placate them by offering free drinks on board planes.

But the show was a huge success, attracting up to 12 million viewers and ranking third in the viewing figures behind Coronation Street and Eastenders. This massively  boosted easyJet’s brand recognition.

‘It is inevitable that when you become such a strong brand you invite humour and parody. So it’s important not to take yourself too seriously,’ says Sir Stelios.

Are Small Cap Stocks Ready to Lead? https://cbomo.com/are-small-cap-stocks-ready-to-lead/ https://cbomo.com/are-small-cap-stocks-ready-to-lead/#respond Sat, 17 Feb 2024 19:18:03 +0000 https://cbomo.com/are-small-cap-stocks-ready-to-lead/ [ad_1]

The S&P 500 (SPY) continues to dance around 5,000. However, many market commentators are wondering when these large caps are going to hand over the reins to small caps after a 4 year advantage. Lets remember that going back 100 years there is a clear and decided advantage in smaller stocks. Discover what Steve Reitmeister predicts in the coming year including a preview of this top 12 stocks to buy now. Read on below for more.

Should stocks break above 5,000 for S&P 500 (SPY) now?

No…that is not very logical as the start date for Fed rate cuts keeps getting pushed further and further into the future. However, it is an important lesson to appreciate that when you are in a bull market, it is best to just stay invested as you never know when the next bull run will take place.

Meaning that more and more the evidence confirms that market timing is a “fools’ errand“. So, the wise thing to is simply stay bullish during bull markets.

That doesn’t mean that every stock will go up. So, let’s spend our time today discussing the stocks that have the best chance to outperform in 2024.

Market Commentary

This was an interesting week for the market. After 2 straight sessions breaking above 5,000, stocks were sent reeling on Tuesday’s much hotter than expected CPI report which pushed out the likely start date for rate cuts.

The -1.37% decline for the S&P 500 was pretty rough. But even more brutal was the -3.96% slashing of small caps.

This “seemed” to set the stage for a consolidation period under 5,000 and perhaps a stiffer 3-5% pullback as investors await a clearer signal to move ahead. Yet on Wednesday investors obviously got a case of amnesia as stocks closed the session at 5,000.62. And then Thursday pressed further higher to 5,029.73.

If you want a narrative to explain this, then it could be twisted that the much weaker than expected Retail Sales report on Thursday should help with the inflation problem. However, that doesn’t hold much water when GDPNow estimates still call for +2.9% growth in Q1.

That is a touch too hot for Fed’s liking. Meaning these are above trend growth levels for the US economy that bring it with it more inflationary pressures.

No doubt the Fed would prefer a true “soft landing” reading closer to 1% GDP growth that would come with greater moderations of inflationary pressures.

This brings us back to the “animal spirits” part of investing:

Bull markets will be bullish…and bear markets will be bearish.

No one is arguing that we are not in a bull market right now. So, no matter how logical it might seem for the recent stock advance to simmer down until the timing of Fed rate cuts is clearer…it is also unwise to bet against that primary bullish trend.

To sum it up…stay bullish until there are concerns of recession that would increase the odds of a recession forming.

With that being said, I will stick to my earlier prognostications for 2024 that there is not a tremendous amount of upside for the S&P 500 after the tremendous gains the past 17 months from the October 2022 lows. Instead, the large caps, and in particular the Magnificent 7 mega caps, that dominate the index are fully valued to overvalued by most objective standards.

I suspect that 5,250 (about 10% above the 2023 close) is a generous upside for the market this year. Instead, I foresee the 4 year advantage for large caps over their smaller peers is going to end.

This tide started to turn during the late 2023 rally. Yet as the calendar flipped to 2024 investors got back to their old habits.

That being a concentration in the Magnificent 7 stocks that has mega caps pulling way ahead of the pack. This is on clear display in the chart below:

The good news is that this past week small caps are taking the baton to lead the stock investing race. And yes, Mega caps pressed pause at the same time.

My gut continues to believe strongly that this recent trend has legs. That investors will have to look farther and wider to find stocks worthy of more upside.

This will lead them to small and mid caps that have impressive growth prospects. The key being much more reasonable valuations than their large cap peers. The combination of superior growth + attractive valuation = greater upside potential.

This investing playbook is at the very heart of the way I am managing my portfolios this year. And gladly leans into the strength of our POWR Ratings system.

This quantitative system analyzes 5,300 stocks by the same 118 factors. Meaning it can analyze the fundamental and price action merits of Apple and NVIDIA by the same yardstick it can measure a $500 million market cap “under the radar” selection.

Indeed, it is that daily analysis of 118 different factors for every stock that unearths those with stellar growth and value characteristics that points to future outperformance. And thus, why this POWR Ratings performance chart dating back to 1999 speaks for itself:

Which top rated POWR Ratings stocks am I selecting at this time?

Read on below for the answers…

What To Do Next?

Discover my current portfolio of 12 stocks packed to the brim with the outperforming benefits found in our exclusive POWR Ratings model. (Nearly 4X better than the S&P 500 going back to 1999)

This includes 5 under the radar small caps recently added with tremendous upside potential.

Plus I have 1 special ETF that is incredibly well positioned to outpace the market in the weeks and months ahead.

This is all based on my 43 years of investing experience seeing bull markets…bear markets…and everything between.

The Benefits of Small Businesses Using Affiliate Marketing https://cbomo.com/apiclick-aspxreffexrssaidtid65cda10074a149589c43327e251b714furlhttps%3a%2f%2fwww-business-com%2farticles%2fwhy-smbs-use-affiliate-marketing%2fc12402014115988541630mkten-us/ https://cbomo.com/apiclick-aspxreffexrssaidtid65cda10074a149589c43327e251b714furlhttps%3a%2f%2fwww-business-com%2farticles%2fwhy-smbs-use-affiliate-marketing%2fc12402014115988541630mkten-us/#respond Thu, 15 Feb 2024 05:28:35 +0000 https://cbomo.com/apiclick-aspxreffexrssaidtid65cda10074a149589c43327e251b714furlhttps%3a%2f%2fwww-business-com%2farticles%2fwhy-smbs-use-affiliate-marketing%2fc12402014115988541630mkten-us/ [ad_1]

Marketing your small business involves testing, tweaking and optimizing your website and creating campaigns to encourage your customers to act – all while maintaining a solid return on investment (ROI). Affiliate marketing is a simple, effective way to scale your marketing efforts. Affiliate marketing involves partnering with other individuals or companies to promote your products or services.

We’ll share 10 reasons businesses should consider affiliate marketing and explain why it’s an excellent strategy for increasing sales and online revenue.

10 reasons to use affiliate marketing

Consider the following 10 reasons your small business should use affiliate marketing:

1. Affiliate marketing helps you track sales progress.

Affiliate marketing programs offer real-time online tracking, so you know precisely when a visitor clicks a link and goes to your website. Affiliate platforms also provide metrics on impressions, clicks and sales, and offer custom lead conversion tools like form submissions and email sign-ups.

All activity is trackable, giving you crucial information on specific KPIs to help you see how your affiliate marketing strategy translates into online revenue and benefits your business.

2. Affiliate marketing enhances promotions.

Affiliate marketing lets you supplement your promotions with affiliate links. For example, if you plan to launch a product just before Christmas, you can send that product information to your affiliates so they can create buzz around your product and include your promotions on their websites.

Your online promotional campaign may include a product launch countdown where you offer a promo code for a discount on a different product each day until launch.

You can also promote a product launch online by hosting a Facebook Live Q&A where you give a behind-the-scenes look at the product, introduce your team and answer questions.

3. Affiliate marketing provides social proof.

Affiliate marketing is one of the most potent ways to incorporate social proof into your online business.

Social proof is the idea that customers will conform to the actions of others if they believe it is the right choice. Social proof exists all around us, but it’s especially powerful in the form of customers’ reliance on product reviews, suggestions and testimonials. Good customer reviews are particularly compelling. In fact, according to a BrightLocal survey, nearly 79 percent of customers say they trust reviews they read online as much as personal recommendations.

An affiliate relationship shows online customers that another business or an influential person believes in your product or company so much that they are willing to endorse it themselves.

4. Affiliate marketing uses a performance-based payment structure.

Affiliate marketing differs from traditional marketing in that you pay your affiliate only when a sale is made. If the affiliate’s work is not producing sales, you don’t have to pay them. You can also shift your focus to other affiliates with audiences more interested in your product or business.

Most e-commerce affiliate commission rates are around 5 percent to 15 percent, so you can enjoy a return on ad spend (ROAS) of 10-to-1 or higher. This cost-effective digital marketing strategy guarantees a return because you set your own commission rates.

5. Affiliate marketing supports online business scalability.

When you incorporate affiliate marketing into your online business, your affiliates act as an indirect sales team. They can promote your products on their websites and generate more revenue for your small business because they engage with their audiences daily.

Here are a couple of tips to scale your affiliate’s reach and create more revenue:

  • Diversify your affiliates. No one affiliate should bring in more than 25 percent of your affiliate revenue. Use coupon sites, customer loyalty sites and other content sites to ensure you don’t become too reliant on one affiliate.
  • Know your competition. Do your due diligence to find out which affiliate programs or influencers your competitors use and what their commission rates are. When you make your brand easy to work with and offer a solid commission, affiliate bloggers and businesses are more inclined to work with you.

6. Affiliate marketing supports website sustainability.

One of the top reasons websites fail is lack of traffic, which calls for a robust SEO strategy. Use affiliates to create brand awareness and supplement with strong social media engagement to help build your website traffic.

7. Affiliate marketing provides a strong ROI.

Affiliate marketing has an unusually high digital marketing ROI. This strategy can increase average order value, per-customer order average and average customer revenue.

8. Affiliate marketing increases sales.

Building relationships with quality affiliates takes time and guidance. However, if you’re committed to putting in the work, your time and effort will pay off. The more exposure your products and services get, the higher your sales will be; affiliate marketing is a great avenue to achieve this.

9. Affiliate marketing lets you leverage different skill sets.

Given the large pool of affiliates available, you’ll have access to an extensive collection of varying skill sets. Your myriad affiliate options increase the chances of high product sales because each seller uses their particular skills to attract different audiences.

10. Affiliate marketing opens up new marketing strategies.

Never use only one form of marketing. Affiliate marketing provides extra protection against this mistake because affiliates employ various advertising techniques to cover every possible avenue.

How Small Businesses Are Spending Their Marketing Dollars In 2024 https://cbomo.com/how-small-businesses-are-spending-their-marketing-dollars-in-2024/ https://cbomo.com/how-small-businesses-are-spending-their-marketing-dollars-in-2024/#respond Sun, 01 Oct 2023 14:31:01 +0000 https://cbomo.com/how-small-businesses-are-spending-their-marketing-dollars-in-2024/ [ad_1]

It’s hard to overstate how broad the marketing strategies of small businesses have become. Before the Internet, small companies relied on print and traditional media advertisements, cold calling, and tight business networks. Even landing space in the Yellow Pages was considered an effective marketing move.

Today’s marketing options are much more extensive, and small businesses are increasing how much they spend on them. According to a recent Taradel marketing survey, 94% of small businesses have plans to boost their marketing spends in 2024.

But where will these dollars go? Here are a few marketing channels many small businesses are considering for 2024.

Social Media

Advertising on social media has become the central area of concentration for most small businesses. According to a 2022 survey by Visual Objects, 70% of all small businesses set aside some budget for social media marketing. Over a quarter of these companies allowed social media to account for 10% and 30% of their advertising budgets.

Few marketing channels are as cost-effective as social media ads. The biggest social networks have a worldwide reach, making targeting specific users and areas easier. Analytic social media tools are also easy to access, use, and understand.

Small businesses do have strong preferences for certain social networks. The Taradel survey mentioned above found that Facebook is favored by an overwhelming majority (83.26) of small businesses, followed by Instagram (48%), LinkedIn (30%), and TikTok (10.7%).

Customer acceptance and trust in social media marketing are also on the rise. Insider Intelligence, a research and data provider, found that YouTube is the most trusted site, followed by Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. As social media continues to evolve, this connection may grow even stronger.

Direct Mail

Despite the apparent dominance of social media, plenty of small businesses still rely on traditional direct mail for their contemporary marketing campaigns. This practice remains relevant because it involves a tangible item that makes a memorable physical impression on customers.

As more small businesses turn to social media and other high-tech marketing solutions, there’s less mailbox competition with direct mail, making it likelier to stand out.

According to the Taradel survey, most small businesses use social media and direct mail to carry out their marketing strategies. Nearly 68.5% plan to use Facebook in 2024, and almost 60.3% said they’ll use direct mail. Combining social media and direct mail is an effective strategy for broadening a small business’s reach.

Search Engine Marketing and Optimization

Search engine marketing continues to thrive. Google Ads, in particular, has changed the digital marketing landscape for many small businesses. With keyword research, demographic analytics, and design tools, marketing employees can create entire campaigns without stepping away from their desks.

That said, the SEO landscape is very competitive. Marketing departments strive to have their companies appear at the top of search results. This is especially important because most people don’t click through to page two. In fact, 95% of all web traffic goes to websites on page one.

SEO can be challenging because it requires small businesses to have operating websites. Most do already, but some companies don’t update them consistently. With outdated information and designs, it’s difficult to participate in search engine marketing. Doing SEO marketing well can take some time and a bigger portion of a company’s budget, but the results are often worth it.

Email and Content Marketing

Email and content marketing are two additional avenues where small businesses are investing their marketing dollars in 2024. These strategies offer a unique opportunity to connect with customers and build lasting relationships.

Email marketing is relatively inexpensive. Yet, it provides a direct line of communication to customers, allowing businesses to send targeted messages, promotions, and updates right to their inbox. The personal touch of email marketing can foster customer loyalty and drive conversions.

Content marketing has gained significant traction in recent years. By creating valuable and engaging content, small businesses can position themselves as industry authorities and attract a dedicated audience. Blog posts, videos, infographics, and podcasts are just a few forms of content that can be leveraged.

These two strategies often work hand in hand. Email campaigns can deliver valuable content directly to subscribers, while content marketing efforts can drive traffic to a business’s website, ultimately growing their email list. The synergy between these approaches can lead to increased brand awareness and customer engagement.

Traditional Media

Though its footprint has been obscured in the digital age, traditional media is still an area of focus for some small businesses. Local retailers, restaurants, service providers, and others dealing with customers directly will likely benefit from newspaper, bus stop, and TV ads.

Traditional media marketing persists because it’s user-friendly. Many potential customers are put off by the busy marketing landscape of the internet and its complex click-through procedures. While the traditional media audience is sure to decline in future generations, many small businesses will continue to find value in old-fashioned marketing.

Where Is Small Business Marketing Headed?

Competition for attention on social media and the internet will only increase in the coming years. Small businesses should prioritize a multi-channel approach to marketing in 2024 and beyond. Wide-scale social media strategies can work in tandem with direct mail, content marketing, and other forms of marketing that still have relevance in the modern age. As the marketing landscape evolves, staying adaptable and open to emerging trends will be key for small businesses to thrive.

Business Development + Marketing Small & Medium Law Firms https://cbomo.com/business-development-marketing-small-medium-law-firms/ https://cbomo.com/business-development-marketing-small-medium-law-firms/#respond Sun, 30 Jul 2023 15:31:14 +0000 https://cbomo.com/business-development-marketing-small-medium-law-firms/ [ad_1]

Small and mid-size law firms have many unique opportunities and challenges in the competitive legal industry ecosystem.

Staying informed about the latest trends and adopting effective strategies is crucial for these firms to remain competitive and thrive in today’s evolving legal marketplace.

This article by Chris Fritsch and Stefanie Marrone explores eight important business development and marketing trends and provides practical strategies to help smaller and mid-size law firms achieve success.

  1. Embracing Digital Transformation: The legal industry continues to undergo a profound digital transformation, and law firms must embrace this change to stay ahead. It is imperative for smaller and mid-size firms to invest in modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, to streamline operations, enhance efficiency and deliver better client experiences. Adopting cloud-based practice management systems, leveraging data analytics for informed decision-making and implementing client portals for secure communication are key steps towards digital transformation.
  2. Personalized Client Experiences: In an increasingly competitive legal market, delivering personalized client experiences is essential for fostering client loyalty and attracting new business. Small and mid-size law firms should focus on understanding their clients’ unique needs and preferences to tailor their services accordingly. By leveraging customer relationship management (CRM) systems and client feedback tools, firms can gather valuable insights and create customized experiences that differentiate them from their competitors.
  3. Content Marketing and Thought Leadership: Establishing thought leadership through content marketing has become a powerful tool for small and mid-size law firms to build credibility and attract clients. Firms should prioritize creating high-quality, informative content such as blog posts, articles, videos and podcasts. By showcasing their expertise and addressing client pain points, firms can position themselves as trusted advisors and thought leaders in their respective practice areas.
  4. Social Media Engagement: Social media platforms continue to play a significant role in marketing strategies. Smaller and mid-size law firms should maintain a strong social media presence, targeting platforms that align with their target audience. By sharing valuable content, engaging with followers, and participating in relevant conversations, firms can enhance their visibility, build brand awareness, and attract potential clients. In addition, consider paid social media for strategic campaigns for thought leadership and webinars.
  5. Leveraging Data Analytics: Data analytics provides invaluable insights into the effectiveness of business development and marketing efforts. By leveraging analytics tools, smaller and mid-size law firms can track key performance indicators (KPIs) and make data-driven decisions. Analyzing website traffic, social media engagement, email marketing metrics and client conversion rates enables firms to optimize their strategies and allocate resources more effectively.
  6. Collaboration and Strategic Partnerships: Forming strategic partnerships and collaborations with complementary professionals and organizations can significantly expand the reach and capabilities of smaller and mid-size law firms. By joining forces with consultants, technology providers or other legal service providers, firms can enhance their service offerings, gain access to new markets, and leverage shared resources for mutual benefit. Strategic alliances can also foster cross-referrals and build a stronger network of trusted advisors.
  7. Outsourcing: Outsourcing allows small- and mid-size law firms to access specialized marketing and data quality services without the need to hire and maintain an in-house team. This can result in significant cost savings as firms only pay for the services they need, avoiding expenses such as salaries, benefits, office space and equipment. Utilizing outsourcing also helps small and mid-size law firms to tap into the expertise of professionals who can offer valuable insights and strategies tailored to them.

Small and mid-size law firms must proactively adapt to the ever-changing business development and marketing landscape to grow and thrive.

Embracing digital transformation, personalizing client experiences, harnessing content marketing and thought leadership, engaging on social media, leveraging data analytics as well as outsourcing and forging strategic partnerships are key strategies for success.

By staying informed about the latest trends and implementing effective strategies, smaller firms can compete with larger counterparts and position themselves as leaders in their fields.

To recap, here are some success strategies for small and mid-size law firms.

5 small changes can lower home utility bills, raise savings and fatten wallets https://cbomo.com/small-improvements-can-lower-home-utility-bills/ https://cbomo.com/small-improvements-can-lower-home-utility-bills/#respond Mon, 10 Jul 2023 09:05:47 +0000 https://cbomo.com/small-improvements-can-lower-home-utility-bills/ [ad_1]

Blasting the air conditioning to counteract stifling heat can provide much-needed relief this summer, but the utility bills that follow might not be as pleasant. The good news is you might have more control over your energy use than you think.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the price of electricity has been steadily climbing over the past two years.

“Most U.S. households will continue to pay high costs for energy throughout the summer because of high energy prices and the anticipated [high] temperatures,” says Courtney Klosterman, home insights expert at insurer Hippo.

Paula Glover, president of the Alliance to Save Energy, a nonprofit that advocates for energy efficiency policy, estimates that based on numbers from the Energy Department, consumers could save 10% to 20% a year on energy bills just by shifting habits and making some energy-efficient investments.

But, she adds, “You have to be diligent.”

Here are five steps you can follow to lower your energy bill this summer:

TAKE A BASELINE

Before making any changes, it’s helpful to examine how much energy you currently use, says Angie Hicks, co-founder of Angi, a website that provides information on home services. Hiring a professional to give your home an energy audit typically costs between $200 and $700 and gives you helpful information about where your home might be leaking, she adds.

You can find one through local home service provider listings, and some utilities offer the service for free. [For instance, Entergy Arkansas offers free assessments under certain conditions, see arkansasonline.com/710assess.]

Electronics themselves might be leaking, says Ethan O’Donnell, digital editor of FamilyHandyman.com, a website about home improvement projects. Televisions, appliances and all kinds of other electronics can use energy even when they are turned off, he says. A tool called an electricity usage monitor, which can be found for under $15, helps determine exactly how much.

O’Donnell discovered that his lamp, appliances and phone chargers were using more electricity than he realized even when powered off, so he made an effort to unplug them when possible and estimates he saves at least $50 a month from those changes.

EFFICIENT HABITS

Simple changes like adjusting your thermostat, turning lights off when you leave the room and keeping windows and doors shut when the air conditioning is on can go a long way, Glover says. Installing a smart thermostat, which automatically adjusts the temperature based on time, your habits and the season, can also help, she adds.

Hicks suggests leaving window coverings closed during the day to help keep the sun’s heat out of your home and getting a seasonal tuneup to your air-conditioning system to make sure it’s working efficiently. Changing your air filter monthly or quarterly also helps it run better, she adds.

SMALL UPGRADES

Small home improvement projects, such as adding or replacing weather stripping that seals leaks around doors and windows, can reduce your energy consumption significantly, Hicks says. “Walk around your house with a lit candle and if the flame flickers, that’s where drafts are coming in. That’s a good candidate for weather stripping,” she says.

Another simple job involves swapping out incandescent bulbs for LED light bulbs, which use at least 75% less energy, according to the Energy Department. “It seems like nothing but has an enormous impact when we do it collectively,” Glover says.

UPDATE APPLIANCES

While buying new appliances can be expensive, the investment can pay off in energy savings, especially when you select products with the Energy Star certification, a program run by the Environmental Protection Agency.

SMART INVESTMENTS

According to Angi’s State of Home Spending in 2022 survey, 29% of homeowners say they plan to add solar panels to their home within the next five years. Updating the heating, ventilating and air conditioning system, or HVAC, was another popular choice (23%). Those kinds of big investments can pay off over the long run, says Hicks, who adds that federal income tax credits are available.

Installing doors as a barrier to different zones in the house can help improve efficiency by letting you control what gets warm and what stays cool, says Jonathan Flynn, a senior building analyst with Home Energy Consultants in Pleasant Valley, N.Y., and a certified Home Energy Rating System rater. “One of the big flaws in most two-story homes is that there is a stairway that leads up and no door at the top or bottom,” he says.

To prevent that energy leakage, Flynn installed a sliding door at the bottom of the stairs in his own home, but he recognizes that doing so might not be practical or desired by all homeowners with open floor plans. Still, he encourages homeowners to at least consider making these kinds of changes, even if they aren’t currently popular.

After all, he adds: “Energy efficiency work in your home is one of the few investments you can make that will actually pay you back.”

Why Small Businesses Should Embrace Google Search Engine Marketing https://cbomo.com/why-small-businesses-should-embrace-google-search-engine-marketing/ https://cbomo.com/why-small-businesses-should-embrace-google-search-engine-marketing/#respond Tue, 20 Jun 2023 16:50:12 +0000 https://cbomo.com/why-small-businesses-should-embrace-google-search-engine-marketing/ [ad_1]

In today’s digital age, establishing a strong online presence is vital for small businesses. Among the plethora of digital marketing strategies, Google Search Engine Marketing (SEM) stands tall as a powerful tool that can drive targeted traffic, boost brand visibility, and ultimately lead to business growth. Let’s explore why every small business should harness the power of Google SEM.

  • Increased Online Visibility: Utilizing Google SEM ensures that your business appears prominently in search engine results pages (SERPs), capturing the attention of potential customers actively searching for products or services related to your industry. With effective keyword targeting and compelling ad copy, you can position your business in front of the right audience at the right time, giving you a competitive edge and significantly increasing your online visibility.
  • Precise Targeting and Cost Control: Google SEM allows small businesses to narrow down their target audience using precise demographic, geographic, and behavioral targeting options. This level of customization ensures that your ads reach the most relevant users, maximizing the chances of conversions. Additionally, SEM provides cost control measures, such as setting daily budget caps and pay-per-click (PPC) pricing, allowing you to optimize your marketing budget and track your ROI effectively.
  • Immediate Results and Measurable Performance: Unlike some long-term marketing strategies, Google SEM delivers immediate results. Once your campaigns are set up and approved, your ads can be displayed to potential customers within hours. Furthermore, SEM offers detailed analytics and performance tracking, allowing you to measure the success of your campaigns, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions to maximize your marketing efforts.

For small businesses aiming to thrive in the digital landscape, embracing Google SEM is a game-changer. Don’t miss out on the opportunities it presents.
