<p>Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, has launched Bluesky. Reported to be an alternative platform to Twitter, the social media platform has finally expanded into Android devices, greatly promoting its reach. It comes after an initial launch on iOS devices in February of this year.</p>
<p>Jack Dorsey has been said to have had a lot of problems with the direction of Twitter long before Elon Musk was in the conversation, and it seems he’s taking another stab at the idea to do it right.</p>
<p>As per the <a target="_blank" href="https://blueskyweb.org/" rel="noopener">Bluesky website</a>: “We’re focusing on re-building the social web by connecting disconnected silos and returning control of the social experience to users. Our mission is to develop and drive the adoption of technologies for open and decentralized public conversation.”</p>
<p>When the concept was launched, Dorsey outlined three key focus areas of Bluesky, made up of:</p>
<ul>
<li>To facilitate enhanced efforts to address abuse and misleading information</li>
<li>To enable users and the broader community to have more input into platform algorithms</li>
<li>To improve conversational health by giving people more input into platform rules</li>
</ul>
<p>According to Social Media Today: “Given that various former tweeps are working on it, it makes sense that Bluesky feels very Twitter-esque – and again, with more people now seeking an alternative, it could be the right time for Bluesky to rise, and gather-up cast-offs from its former parent app.”</p>

<p>Video, stickers, text, and audio track editing will all be incorporated onto one screen.</p>

<p>Some are calling it CapCut for IG, which would explain why the site has been rumoured to ban or suppress content created with the CapCut editing platform, which belongs to TikTok.</p>

<p>The Twitter Blue saga rumbled on for months, with the value and legitimacy of the blue checkmarks hotly contested by critics and supporters.</p>
<p>Just as the furore around the blue checkmarks seemed to be dying down, Musk introduced something new – the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/twitter-blue-tick-verification-elon-musk-b2265071.html" rel="noopener">gold checkmark</a>.</p>
<p>Previously, blue ticks were only granted to users who were notable in some way, such as celebrities, politicians, and brands. Now, anyone can buy a blue tick, so there needs to be some way of differentiating between real accounts and imposters.</p>
<p>This is where the gold checkmark comes in. These can be used by companies to identify their account as belonging to a brand, or a ‘Verified Organization’ as Twitter puts it.</p>
<p>These companies will get a gold tick next to their handle, while employees of that organization will be identified as such on their profile.</p>
<p>After an initial trial period, the feature is now being fully rolled out across a range of regions, including the US, UK, Australia, Japan, Germany, and Brazil.</p>
<p>So, what does the gold tick offer? Not a lot, it turns out. Brands with a blue tick won’t get much more than the standard Twitter Blue features, such as Tweet editing, a larger character limit, and fewer ads.</p>
<p>Twitter Blue incurs a cost of $8 a month, which was the cause of much backlash. However, this figure pales in comparison to the gold checkmark, which will cost brands a sizable sum of $1,000 a month.</p>
<p>Is it worth it? At first glance, it would seem not. However, brands need some way of verifying their identity on the platform, so this could become a necessary business expense.</p>
