Apple’s $3,499 Vision Pro mixed reality headset debuted in February. Despite Apple’s efforts to make the Vision Pro mainstream, it remains “a costly niche product,” according to Bloomberg chief correspondent Mark Gurman.
His Sunday Power On newsletter reveals new details about Apple’s strategy with the Vision Pro as it aims to sell more units.
According to Gurman, Apple’s Vision Products Group always strategized to bring out the Vision Pro first, and then a cheaper alternative down the line.
The group’s focus is now on this cheaper headset, which could sell in the $1,500 to $2,000 range. Apple wants to release it as early as the end of 2025 and planned on doing so before even teasing the Vision Pro, Gurman asserted.

Even if the cheaper Vision Pro sold at $1,500, it would be three times more expensive than the Meta Quest 3 and more than seven times as expensive than the Meta Quest 2, which has sold at least 20 million units.
Bloomberg wasn’t the only one to pick up on Apple’s push for a more affordable mixed-reality headset. The Information also published a report last week confirming that Apple wants to release a less expensive version of the Vision Pro by the end of 2025.

Though Apple sold out of its initial stock of the Vision Pro, with about 200,000 pre-orders, the headset has still gotten off to a slower-than-expected start. In April, analysts sharply cut their Vision Pro shipment projections for the rest of the year, from around 700,000 units to about half of that, from 400,000 to 450,000 shipments.
The Vision Pro received mixed reviews and average or above-average return rates for Apple products from its first buyers. Customers who returned it didn’t like the weight of the device, the current lack of apps, and the quality of the display.
Apple announced at its annual developer conference earlier this month that the Vision Pro would soon be internationally available, which could help boost sales.
China, Hong Kong, and Singapore will have access to the Vision Pro later this month; France, Germany, Canada, Australia, and the U.K. will have access next month.

However, one of the most important decisions you must make during this time is how much you are willing to spend to ensure affordable, sustainable homeownership.
Most lenders suggest you spend no more than 28% of your monthly income — before taxes are taken out — on your mortgage payment. But how much you feel comfortable spending depends on your personal financial situation. In fact, there are several different types of affordable housing that can allow you to match your lifestyle wants with your budget needs.
Below, we’ve created a list of the various affordable housing types you may come across in your housing search.
Affordable Housing Types
Starter homes
These homes serve the needs of their owners, usually first-time homebuyers, for a short-term period — typically 5-10 years. Although they may lack some amenities and space found in so-called forever homes, they’re more affordable and allow homeowners to build wealth through home equity, home value appreciation and tax benefits.
Distressed/foreclosed homes
This type of home is one that is either on the edge of foreclosure or already owned by a bank. Although these homes appear significantly cheaper on paper, they often need significant renovation before they’re inhabitable. Areas that require attention commonly include repairs to the structure, plumbing or roofing, as well as addressing other health and safety hazards. In rare cases these homes may be completely abandoned and require additional attention. Homebuyers who opt for distressed or foreclosed homes can expect a lower purchase price and less competition, but more spending on necessary improvements and repairs.
Manufactured homes
Manufactured homes are built in a factory rather than directly on the land where its owners will live. These homes can take two to three months to complete compared to the average site-built home turnaround of seven to eight months. In addition to the convenience and affordability provided by new factory-built homes, which are roughly one-fifth the cost of new site-built homes, each one is required to undergo inspection and meet Department of Housing and Urban Development standards that cover design and construction, durability, fire resistance, energy efficiency and more — ensuring the home is no more vulnerable to weather-related damages and other wear and tear than site-built homes.
HomeSteps homes

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Finding an affordable place to live has become a challenge even for people who have decent paying, full time jobs. There are projects underway but that itself is a long process and there are people who need a place to live now.
Nena Woods is one of those people. She’s living in a hotel right now. “I have an awesome job. I work full time. Work, work myself silly and I still can’t afford rent,” said Woods.
At 50 years old she never thought she’d be in a situation like this and at 700 dollars a week she can’t stay here much longer. “I’m mean it’s nice here. I have everything I need for right now. But after this I don’t know. I don’t know where I’m going to go,” said Woods.
Building more affordable places to live is Stephanie Norris’s passion. Her family has helped build and manage workforce housing developments such as Bennett Village, Lockwood Village and Estrella Landing which is under construction. Norris is working to educate out community when it comes to the stigma attached to low income housing when our neighbors need it most.
“It’s people washing your dishes, when you go out to a restaurant or serving you food or bagging your groceries or taking care of my kids and the daycare setting, you know, so it’s so much more than what people think. We’ve worked really hard to kind of change the dialogue to focus on workforce focus on affordable. And because you’re right, when people hear low income, they have a totally different connotation, they have a thought of what used to be public housing,” said Stephanie Norris, workforce housing developer.
Linda McConatha is a senior on a fixed income. “As you get to be my age and you’re living off social security which unfortunately isn’t really enough in this day and age,” said McConatha.
She lives in the Bennett Village complex, where depending on your salary and other factors the rent can be as low as $500 a month. She lost her husband two years ago and is thankful he found the apartment when he did.
“I am grateful for it because it is a nice place to live. I’ve never lived by myself so I wasn’t sure how I was going to do but I’m not afraid here,” said McConatha.
The process to build more workforce housing complexes is a lengthy one. Every year the Housing Finance Agency puts together a rule book for developers to apply for a low income housing tax credit.
“You go find a piece of property. You try to get that property under contract for a reasonable price. In New Hanover, that’s pretty tough to do or really Brunswick County any place on the coast is pretty tough to do. You’re putting your earnest money up at risk, you’re paying for rezonings and conditional use or annexation, and you’re spending a lot of money to make sure the property works. And then it makes sense. And you don’t even know if you’re gonna get the award,” said Norris.
The Bennett Village and Lockwood Village apartment complexes are full. Estrella Landing is under construction, it will have 72 units and should be completed by May of next year. They are compiling a list for anyone interested in living here.
That gives Woods hope “I’m not giving up. I’m gonna keep going until something happens. I’m trying to stay as positive as I can. And just to know that something has to happen. It can get better, ” said Woods.
The rent in these affordable housing complexes is based on the median income for the county and an applicants salary.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Access to high-speed internet is a problem for a big chunk of the Las Vegas Valley. FOX5 has reported on the broadband gap and how spotty connectivity can be in some areas — but two programs are aimed at changing that.
The federal government has set aside $14 billion for the Affordable Connectivity Program, which is available to people who make less than double the federal poverty rate or are on some kind of government assistance. Those who qualify can receive $30 a month for internet payments.
“You need a broadband connection to do everything in life these days,” Cox Communications Market VP Janet Uthman said Wednesday. “And it is a great equalizer.”
Cox is one of the providers participating in the program. Uthman says it’s more important now than ever for people to take advantage of it.
“You need connectivity for everything,” she said. ”Whether it’s Telehealth or to do your homework or apply for jobs online or do your work from home.”
Cox has also partnered with the City of Las Vegas to open up an innovation lab on the Historic Westside School campus. Las Vegas resident Abdual Shabazz is one of the lab’s star pupils.
“I’m definitely not of the Google generation,” Shabazz said, smiling. “So you have to be able to bring your skill level up to the virtual world of today.”
At the innovation lab, Shabazz has learned how to navigate the online world, which is just as important as getting online in the first place.
“It’s comfortable, where you come in and you learn,” he said. “That’s the key.”
The lab helps people of all ages with everything from computer basics to coding and has helped Shabazz make himself into a 21st-century man.
“The 8-track tape is gone,” Shabazz said with a chuckle. “It’s dead. This is the virtual world, and if you don’t have virtual skills, you’re totally left out in the cold.”
